Tonderai Sowa was born in 1978 in Nyanga Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe .As is the case with most Zimbabwean sculptors Tonderai did not attend any formal art school, he began sculpting with his step father Julius Chinhoyi.
Tonderai is a versatile artist and his source of inspiration comes from family, woman and nature.Tonderai see’s Zimbabwe stone sculptors as storytellers who celebrate and explore their culture as well as universal themes through their work. The young artist whose work has great emotional depth also says “ stone sculpting is a way of writing down the history of Africa in a manner that can be easily appreciated by future generations here in Zimbabwe and around the world’’
Tonderai is married and has three children and has participated in several group exhibitions in Zimbabwe, Canada and the whole of Europe.
