Fascinating stories continually arise and exciting discoveries are regularly made. The ever-changing picture of unique items are located here and given national and international coverage.
Summers Place Auctions will be holding a special evening for all foodies in the area!
On Wednesday, 14th March you can be the first to dine amongst mammoths, antique sculptures, bronze lions identical to the ones on Trafalgar Square, rockets and a wide array of quirky and unique objects for home and garden. You will get an exclusive
preview of the “Conversation Pieces” Auction which will take place on the 20th and 21st March while being able to hear more about the objects from the specialists.
Summers Place Auctions announces that it will be including a family of four mammoths in its 5th Evolution Sale on 21st November 2017. It will be the first time that a family of these ice age giants will be offered for sale and are expected to sell in the region of £250,000 – 400,000.
The family consists of a male and a female mammoth, a teenage daughter and one-year old baby and they were all found together during building works near the Siberian city of Tomsk, in the south-west of the great Siberian Taiga in 2002.
Rupert van der Werff, Summers Place Auctions' Natural History specialist, says: “I was really excited to see the mammoths as a group for the first time a few months ago, but it was quite a thrill when they arrived in 16 boxes in our gallery in Billingshurst. 'Building' a
skeleton comes with a lot of challenges, imagine it to be a bit like doing a rather difficult 3-D puzzle. Having sold an individual mammoth in 2014 for £150,000, we hope that this unique family group will find a new home in a museum, a company's atrium or a private collection somewhere around the world.”

This June sees Summers Place Auctions' first auction with a focus on Tribal Art & Travel take place on the 13th & 14th June 2017. The Billingshurst-based auctioneers have been leading auctioneers in the field of Garden Statuary and Sculpture for over a decade and with their first Evolution Sale in 2013 also established themselves as leaders in Natural History. 2017 sees them start a new series of sales with a special focus on Tribal Art and Travel in June.
Rupert van der Werff says: “We have been including some tribal art and travel related items in several of our past sales, but having realised that they are quite popular with our regular buyers, we thought we make a bit more of a feature of it. This is the ideal auction for a first time buyer in this area as they are not just decorative, but many lots are very affordable at estimates under £500.”
Tribal Art's influence on Modern Art is undeniable – many of the Masters of Modern Art, like Matisse and Picasso had been influenced by African masks and sculptures. They were inspired by the often abstract forms of human faces and translated them into portraits on paper.
